In his first public comments since news broke Wednesday evening, Sept. 25, Adams denied any wrongdoing and said the Biden Administration had made him a "target" because he fought federal immigration policy.

“I will fight these injustices with every ounce of my strength and my spirit. If I’m charged, I know I am innocent,” he said in a video statement. “I will request an immediate trial so that New Yorkers can hear the truth. New Yorkers know my story. They know where I come from. I have been fighting injustice my entire life."

He added he has no intentions of resigning if he is charged.

Federal officials are purportedly investigating whether Adams' 2021 mayoral campaign conspired with the Turkish government — and possibly other entities — for donations, CNBC and Fox News report.

The indictment remains sealed, and it is not immediately clear what Adams has been charged with.

Adams, who has been serving as NYC's 110th mayor since 2022, was previously an NYC Transit Police officer and an NYPD officer, retiring at the rank of captain after more than 20 years. Adams also served as a state senator, representing the 20th district in Brooklyn from 2006 to 2013.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for Adams' resignation on X.
